herringbone in red

–It’s finished! Weaving the narrow joining fabric for the coverlet was a marathon, approx. 9 yards, 11,664 weft shots, 8 3/4 yds. after washing. 
As the squares have been woven by different people they will vary in size. They all have to be squared or made to fit without cutting and I have decided to handstitch them with a herringbone stitch — in red.
There is a woven border at the top and bottom of each square and stitching into it makes a firm join. Of course when the stitching is done on the sides it will be into the pattern.
What do you think about the red?
Nine squares alternate, indigo and natural grey, handspun wool. I’m hoping the red adds a little something extra.

the red is very good. i think you should win an award for the miles of weaving and stitching on this piece.

It looks gorgeous! I finished the napkins today! I even did a wee bit with the new Noro and it looked pretty. Washing tonight!

The red is a brilliant touch! as is the goose-eye twill joining fabric. I have squares from a very long ago guild project waiting to be joined!

I love the red – the blue and white tend to have a natural calmness and formality, which is lovely, but the red zings it up and gives it personality and more of a contemporary feel.
And wow, you’re not kidding – what a marathon that must have been.
