where have all the flowers gone?

October 26, 2010

I started weaving flowers because my granddaughter wanted them for her sun hat. They are woven on a 4″ weavette loom, most of them from handspun bits of wool, but I’ve also used handspun yarn  of many different fibres. It’s a great way to use up small bits of yarn. A few beads and a pin on the back and they dress up a bag or lapel as well as a hat.

I’ve been experimenting with a borrowed 2″ loom to make little ones ( in the front of the picture). They’re need a bit more work but have possibilities.

Unfortunately the weavette loom is no longer being made so you have to find them secondhand. If you have one you want to sell let me know.

The large, blue bag is also weavette squares stitched together and fulled. Then needle felted and beaded.

The squares in this wall hanging are woven with shifu thread, hemp and wool.

The flowers aren’t all finished. These sweet peas are still putting out new blooms even if they are a little the worse for the weather. I’ll be planting them again next year.

Nice creations. How did you fold the flowers? I love your flowers with the beaded complement.

SonDoras – each woven square is stitched and gathered for the flower, the leaves are just folded in on themselves.

Would you be able to give the size and spacing of the nails in the loom so a person could make their own I would really like to try to make the flowers thanks

Connie – there are many sizes and variations, if I wanted to spend the time designing a loom I’d be charging for it. google “pin looms” and somewhere there are instructions. good luck
