my favorite clematis “the President” is a welcoming sight at the studio
I choose to finish the shibori warp with the stripe pattern
which seems like a strange choice for someone always weaving stripes
I like the irregular simplicity
still dyeing although this is the end for now
22/2 silk, enough for a warp, madder/cochineal with alum mordant
that was one strong dye pot!
and gold from some old, dry eucalyptus leaves that were overlooked at the back of the cupboard
I’ve been painfully crawling around with a pinched sciatic nerve
in order to keep going I needed a cane *#!! – so I fashioned one out of an old broomstick used for stirring the indigo vat. A little sanding and some oil and I have a dyer’s fashion statement, indigo shibori on wood.
some very tempting workshops are listed in Maiwa’s catalogue this year.
jean, that totally stinks! sciatica. i had it too. i love your broom sitck! take care and be easy on yourself.

Velma – nothing like sciatica to make a body feel really old. may have to exchange the broomstick for a proper cane but I’m resisting. still resisting in the dye pot, too. and I’m expecting – impatiently!

Love the shibori stripes! Hope your back feels better soon. Your cane would like to get back in the dyepot.

thanks, Louisa – I would be happy to get back to the dye pot as well.

the stripes are perfect!! the sciatica is the opposite! i suffered from that several years ago and had to do a mix of modified yoga and not being so upset about it in my head for it to get better, though it flares up from time to time. i hope that soon the broomstick goes back to being a pot stirrer!

Aimee – I had thought of flying away on the broomstick
Neki – even the seed pods on the President are dramatic. shibui is good!

The stripes are really perfect and imperfect…just as it should be. There are some nice yoga stretches for sciatica if you google it. I had sciatica after healing from a broken ankle. It’s a real pain!

thanks, Kirstin. I have an excellent yoga book for back pains, it depends on what causes the sciatica in the first place and at the moment I’m happy to just be on my feet and moving forward.
