enjoying Spring

April 16, 2013

not much weaving being done! the garden is calling, the sun is shining – and this weekend is my studio tour which means I’m in clean-up mode!

spinning 156

but the spinning goes on – finished all the cotton and plyed it with Bryan’s reeled silk, dyed with kakishibu

spinning 163

good guessing, there was only a couple metres of the silk remaining

spinning 161

next is a silk/yak blend – one of my students gave me as a “thank you” for teaching her to spin

it is like a cloud, incredibly soft and the colour of mist

I’ve been doing some sashiko stitching on a scrap of indigo dyed linen

it will make a small shifuku

now back to the sunshine

Every time I think I can’t be surprised… the sashiko is lovely.

the cotton is subtle and lovely! did you spin the reeled silk at all or just plied it with the cotton as is? the shifu you spun earlier is making me drool; i’ll make time to practice spinning such finally cut paper one of these days. i’m still working on a bit of silk/camel i started awhile ago; you’ll enjoy the silk/yak immensely!

Renee – I started stitching at the age of 3, hand stitching is meditative and very satisfying
Anastasia – don’t have to spin reeled silk, it is very smooth and strong. The shifu is 8 full sheets of paper, I have plans for it. The kiraku kozo paper is wonderful to work with.

All those little balls of overspun cotton make me giddy. And the 2-ply with Bryan’s silk turned out gorgeous! What a lovely misty fuzz.
