what a day!

November 19, 2012

last night the first winter storm came roaring in from the Pacific

all was relatively calm this morning

I was so excited to weave with the new weft that I forgot to eat breakfast

the weft is three silk singles that I plyed

my handspun tsumugi indigo dyed this summer and two reeled silks from Bryan, blue/green and plum

I came in from the studio for lunch and my cold porridge was waiting – no wonder I was hungry

scarf number 3 is dark and  subtle on the black warp

but the next storm front is coming in with torrential rain on it’s leading edge

and my sump-pump hose sprung a major leak, getting a new hose was easy

hooking it up in the dark and pouring rain was not

the kit had 2 of the same ends, the hose clamp wouldn’t fit, I couldn’t find any electrical tape

did you know that when masking tape gets really wet it all sticks together and won’t unroll

I’ll be back if I don’t get washed away tonight.

I like this scarf best too! Perfect colours for this time of year. Oh, and my condolences on the sump pump. I’m sure you did a great job fixing it, but it sounded like a miserable task.

Heather – one more scarf to go. I added an extra length of hose the next day in the light and all seems to be working. It keeps my studio so when the water level is 4″ and rising I get a bit panicky.

oh, i think i like this one the most now! not that they aren’t all quite lovely, but this one reminds me of the ocean. hunker down, and keep safe! luckily, you don’t have to worry about traveling for the thanksgiving holiday as you’ve already had yours! it’s still sunny here, but according to my weather app the band has entered the state.

Anastasia – I love the ocean but that’s where all our weather comes from and it can be a powerful force. I like this one best, too.

what a lovely wheel… what sort is it?
I’ve just recently taught myself to spin using an Ashford traditional but would love something a bit more compact.
    oh, and such beautiful colours!

Sammiam – the wheel is a Journey Wheel from Jonathon Bosworth, I’ve had it since 1981. They are very expensive now, I think there is a long waiting list. It spins fine and fast.

I love to read how devoted you are to your work. I get distracted by a thousand chores, people to meet, engagements, etc. so very little gets done. I wish I could be a little more productive.

I get distracted, too Blandina and I have too many different things on the go at one time. I used to get more done when I worked and had to be really organized.
