shifu paper – yarn
November 17, 2012
you have to see paper and feel it – it’s difficult to buy online!
while browsing in my favorite art supply store – Opus Art Supplies
I found this – kiraku kozo – handmade Japanese paper
it is wonderful for shifu, if just a little expensive
it was cut at .4mm, spun and plyed with silk
reeled silk from Bryan in Japan, it gives it shine and texture
the red thread is regular sewing thread to give an idea of how fine the yarn is
the paper is strong, it could have been cut even finer, the silk will make it strong enough for a warp
all sorts of crazy ideas are going around in my head
next I will try dyeing it

Would love to touch it. And for warp! Incredible.

Alice – it is very strong, not at the warp stage yet, it will take hours of cutting and spinning

Wow! Simply fabulous! I have to get that Japanese video of how to spin gold thread to you. You are the only person I know who might actually be able to do it!
