an update
I started spinning this silk in June 2022
finished – 260 grams of 2 ply – singles on the little Turkish spindle and then plied on the wheel
final (hopefully!) shopping on Thursday – it was insane (after I found a parking place)
my last stop was my favorite fibre store, to get something to spin while I sit by the fire in the evenings
I was tired and couldn’t find the fibre I wanted so just took a 250 gram bag of Cotswold wool
I should have looked at it more carefully – it is very greasy, matted and really full of straw and “stuff”
the worst spinning fibre I have worked with in years and it wasn’t cheap
the saying is ” don’t shop for food when you are hungry” – so, don’t shop for fibre when you are tired
now after picking through and teasing open the locks – then repeatedly hand carding small batches
one small skein is plied and washed – it will keep me busy (not always happily) for quite some time
the little pot is an ikibana flower cup (my favorite colour) from local Rainforest Pottery in Parksville – day 7 of the advent parcels
day 3 is the graphic novel Shadow Life by Japanese Canadian Hiromi Goto with the drawings by Ann Xu
it is “a look at aging and all the joys and disappointments of a life fully lived”
daughter-in-law was very brave giving her aging mother-in law a book on aging – but – it was on my reading list
and I hadn’t been able to find it in town so was delighted
although it can be sad and disturbing it is also very funny in places and I haven’t laughed so hard in weeks
I think it depends on how an individual is approaching aging
day 4 is chocolate covered popcorn and day 5 a large bottle of Mexican natural vanilla (excellent)
and now I’m off to card some dirty wool
it’s like the lights went on–staed looking at blogs and here you are, so sweet!

That wool must be so annoying! I think I might have just thrown it on the compost heap! I hope the gifts from your DinL help.

Sue – very annoying but I wanted something to keep me busy and it will definitely do that. Besides it was expensive and when you sell things nobody cares if it is handspun and natural dyed or store bought. They want it for a price that is less than the raw, unspun fibre.

Hand crafts are seriously undervalued

Sue – I usually do quite well at studio tours because people can see the work that goes into things and the amount of equipment and space I have.

Drat about the dirty wool! I am glad your furnace was fixed in time for the SNOW, so you and the bears can keep warm there up the hill!

Kjerstin – I don’t have a furnace just a gas fireplace and thank you, it is lovely to have it especially in the evenings when I’m spinning the nasty wool.

I am so happy you are enjoying the book. My book club is discussing Shadow Life next month and I thoroughly enjoyed it. As I read it I was pretty certain you would enjoy it as well. ❤️
