stitching on

March 9, 2022

another 15 minute/5 day book page finished

the pin loom squares are leftovers as is the fabric button so they didn’t take any time

is that cheating?

the mother-of pearl buttons were a junk store purchase years ago

I was excited to finish 4 pages and machine stitch them, right sides together

now I can see how they will go together

the black striped patch was bought at Kitano Tenjin Shrine in Kyoto in 1987

it is an obi, when the seller told us it was shifu we didn’t believe him until he took a tiny piece off the corner and unravelled the weft thread

my classmate Flora bought it and generously shared small samples

it was a wartime piece and the yarn was spun with silk around a paper core

haven’t run out of scraps – or ideas – yet

I’ve been working long days in the garden tidying up

the Japanese plum is blooming and I’m back to working on the tokanoma scroll for Spring

many traditional scrolls feature calligraphy so I’m stitching a Springtime quote – written by Yoko Ono

going out to sit in the sun

Love the pages, and the use if scraps that may not have been from the same original project, if it was a project. UT the work well together and tell “you” a story. Thanks for sharing

Love what you have done with the square. I have made one card so far with the ones you sent me.

Cathy – the squares were recycled from old projects, the smaller one on the top made from handspun silk, it was distorted and not even square. There is a use for everything if you are a packrat and keep it long enough.

It is too early to do much gardening here but I love the idea of sitting out in the sunshine – can you send some over to me when you have had your fill? Your pages are gorgeous. I have saved the instructions for that tab and slot mehod but haven’t had time to have a go.

Sue – the sun is shining but then it is cold, don’t sit for very long. The “pages” are a wee bit bulky (and not very big) will see how they go together once there is a slot set.
