another month has almost drifted away

I’m always happy when the end of the warp appears on the back beam

the question then is “what’s next?”

 the hexie quilt is finished

the basting stitches are out, the backing and borders complete

the label is done – it’s a pocket – a good place to keep your hankie – and I like pockets

I’ll write a little history and leave it there for future generations

Kate (in Australia) suggested the name when I first started

I’m saving the unveiling for Scrap Happy Day July 15th

the dark purple hollyhocks are starting to bloom – the deer only ate a few plants!

I freeze the blossoms all summer so there is enough to make a strong dye pot

here are the samples from last summer

think the silk I’m currently spinning will go nicely in this dye pot

we are experiencing an incredibly intense “heat dome”

the hottest temperature ever recorded in all of Canada was on the B.C. lower mainland yesterday

and today is going to be hotter

Yesterday I wove for 3.5 hours – it reminded me of Kawashima (Japan) in August

don’t think I’ll do that today

stay cool everyone – or warm in the Southern hemisphere

Pocket is a great idea. I canot understand women’s jackets not having inside pockets.

Noilin – Most of the clothes we buy are mass produced in factories in foreign countries – the bottom line is to produce them as cheaply as possible and sell for exorbitant prices. Pockets are not necessary and cost in time and materials. In designer clothes the idea is not to have pockets that women will stuff things into and ruin the silhouette

I have found a shop which only stocks winter jackets/coats with inside pockets. Like so many things the bottom line is profit not what is needed by those who purchase.

Noilin – many textile/clothing manufacture’s bottom line is money – their employees are underpaid and some work in terrible conditions. It is the way the world operates, I don’t see it changing any time soon.

I like the pocket too! Scrap Happy July is a date to look forward to! Thankfully the temperature has cooled down considerably “down the hill” today.

Kjerstin – cooler “up the hill” too. Watered both front and back gardens early this morning. Will finish weaving tea towels today.

I like pockets too. It bugs me that so often women’s clothes don’t have them – handbags are all very well but I don’t always have one with me in the house or garden! With a teaser from you and another hint from Kate I am looking forward to seeing hat you have both made for July’s scrap happy.

Something to look forward to on ScrapHappy Day 🙂 Love the idea of the label as a pocket for the notes on its creation.
