time to celebrate
June 21, 2021
summer is officially here – it’s hot and sunny
I’ve been spending most of my time in the garden
everything is growing bigger and better
it’s time to dye with lady’s mantle ( alchemilla vulgaris)
it has been used for centuries as a medicinal herb and the leaves can be used to make tea
but the real celebration is – today I got my second vaccination
first one was Pfizer and today it was Moderna
I have no plans to travel or attend any big parties but it is comforting
I worked vary hard to have the hexie quilt finished to celebrate this day
(’till 8 0’clock last night)
but it still needs the backing, a hanging sleeve (maybe!) and a label
it’s come a long way from the front window – 15 months

Mary, as you can see I’m behind with blog reading – so i’m trying to catch up but in reverse. Great you’ve had your 2nd jab and that you “can” go places if you want or stay home and use up scraps, love the hexie quilt you’ve constructed. I know that even though NZ is one of lucky places, I’m still hesitant about travelling within….

Catherine – I’m a retired nurse and don’t believe this will just go away quietly so will stay close to home for some time still. Especially as most of our large, diverse country is opening up and the U.S. is “hammering on the door” for us to open the border. I think we have a way to go yet. By the way I go by my second name – Jean. 🙂

Congratulations! On both the vaccination and for your determination in finishing the hexie quilt top. It’s lovely, and I hope you’ll do a proper post for ScrapHappy so the whole group sees it, and learns about how and why it was made.

Kate – hope to get it finished by the weekend, I’ll put it on ScrapHappy next month. It certainly was an adventure! I still plan to be very careful but it is a good feeling to get the second shot.

Your quilt is gorgeous! I bet when you started making hexies for he window you never thought this is how it would end! Congratulations on your second vaccination – I feel so much safer now I have had both and know they have worked (I am in a study by the UK Office for National Statistics tracking the outbreak and the effects of vaccination so know I had antibodies after the first one). That doesn’t mean I am not being careful but it is nice to know that if I do fall ill I should be in less danger.

Sue – the last 15 months have definitely been a time to examine our lives and look at how we can change things for the future. I certainly had no idea where those first hexies would lead me. Good for you being part of the study, it must be very interesting. I have no plans to do anything wild and foolish but, like you, feel some relief knowing that the vaccinations offer some protection. I can’t wait to completely finish the quilt and move on – don’t know where I’m going but at least it will be forward.

I spend a lot more time travelling hopefully than I do arriving or even having a plan!

Your Hexie Quilt top is wonderful, and Congratulations on your booster!!! What a boost it gives us all to have vaccinations go up and numbers go down!

Kjerstin – I’m surprised at how happy I am to get the second – and we may be looking at a booster if the varients progress. I’m quite pleased with the quilt and even happier that it is almost finished.
