Christmas is coming

December 16, 2020

days 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16

humm – did they figure out that I like chocolate?

Chocolate covered almonds and chocolate covered figs (never heard of they before) – they’re good

bamboo spoon and hashi  – how do they know, when I’m home alone, I always eat with chopsticks?

2 pairs of soft, warm socks – need to roll up my pants to show off the fancy ones

a linen tea towel – made in Canada

the birds are cute – thinking of using them as an embroidery/stitch pattern

sending a picture to granddaughter Jill – she taught herself to embroider from online instructions this year

she sent me a picture from her cell phone

I’m delighted that one of the grands is taking an interest in any form of textiles

and granddaughter Carrie and her dad were over in the night

secretly decorating the yew trees in my front yard

it’s getting to look a lot like Christmas

Gifts from those who know and love us are always so apt.

Claire – in this age of technology it is heart warming when the next generation shows interest in anything done by hand.

Those are lovely presents again and those birds are gorgeous. There is a local maker who creates needlefelted birds that are quirky like those and one day I will treat myself to one (they are, understandably, rather expensive!)

Sue – as the saying goes, “time is money” and the time taken to make beautiful things by hand is just as valuable as a new computer or cell phone. You deserve to treat yourself, maybe on a special occasion.

I am so moved by these tokens of affection, we all need some kindness in our lives and all the better if it comes from loved ones.

Blandina – yes, in these difficult times, we are definitely learning who cares and who matters in our lives. I too, am deeply moved by these daily gifts of love.

the birds on the tea towel are sure cute and yep great to use a design in the future – and great about the younger embroiderer enabled by thee 🙂

Catherine – it is fun to watch the designs and patterns she chooses. Some are very traditional flowers and colours and then some quite “modern”. I am trying to encourage but not influence her choices.

The chocolate-covered dates sound sweet! Christmas socks – how cheerful, and love the lights! What a kind family…they must have had good role models! !

Kjerstin – it’s figs not dates and dark choc. so not too sweet. Two generations brainstorming ideas, extending the joy and I’m quite overwhelmed, it certainly is very special and a Christmas I will never forget.
