Scrap Happy June
nothing new to report – oh no, more hexies!
I hoped to have this finished
but Kate offered some indigo scraps and I think they are on the slow boat from Australia
I’m impatiently waiting to add a row or two down the right side
where a row of plain, dark blue hexies are stitched
in the meantime I’ve been stitching between all the stripes
then adding French knots here and there
not sure how the edges will be finished?
or what the piece will be used for – but think I’m coming to the end of my hexie craze
still adding a new hexie flower each Monday to mark the pandemic weeks
there is one ready for tomorrow
but life is getting back to a new kind of normal
I’m getting my hair cut this week, thank goodness
so maybe these are coming to an end too
and in the words of our provincial health minister, Dr. Bonnie Henry
“be kind, be calm, be safe”

Hexies looking good so far – I’m sure the wait for the extra supplies will be worth it.

Bekki – mail is slow and patience is a virtue (my mother told me so).

😊 A virtue I definitely don’t have 😕

Bekki – I’m incredibly patient for some things but definitely not for others. I think it is for anything that has really captured your heart and mind.

Those blue and white hexies are making a lovely potential quilt top. Maybe the rainbow hexies could become part of the back of the quilt?

Sue – those individual hexies are 3mm or 1 1/4″, there is absolutely no way they will become a quilt. The window ones are a little bigger. I am basically a spinner, weaver and dyer, all that is time consuming enough.

Your blue hexies are beautiful — I love all the blues. And I’m with Claire, it would be lovely so see your lockdown hexies in a quilt. Never say never? 😉

Sunny – indigo is my favorite and most challenging dye – so many variations of blue. Don’t think a quilt is going to happen. First I’d have to spin, weave and dye and I won’t live long enough for all that to happen!

I love the blues too. I am longing to have my hair cut but there is no sign of much loosening of the restrictions here.

Sue – I thought my young hairdresser wouldn’t make it through the shut down so when I heard she is back I couldn’t wait.

I like the travelling indigo idea too, and I also have some potentially useful scraps “down the hill”. One of these days lets try and have that socially distanced walk, book exchange, and maybe cloth swap too!

Kjerstin – scraps seem to grow quietly, in the dark, overnight! Yes, I would love to take that walk, down by the water with books and cloth and Hittys.

Hurrah for hexies, and I am envious of the hair appointment, in the UK we are still waiting.

Cathy – Canada – and British Columbia is slowly opening. I desperately need the hair cut but am a little nervous. Think second waves will start reminding people the virus is still “out there” and possibly mutated to become stronger. I’m still staying home most of the time. Lots of gardening and working on reducing several different stashes.

The mail is slow, but it does get there in the end… I hope there’s something you can use in the pieces I’ve sent. I like the idea that pieces I received from around the world are now on the next stage of their journey 🙂

Kate – mail in Canada has slowed down considerably, of course international mail is slower due to the lack of planes flying. No. 2 son is in the airline manufacturing business, at least he is still working. Many of the hexie pieces have already traveled great distances, it makes the work more special.

love all those blues! and what a brilliant idea to have been making a hexie flower every week to mark duration of lockdown – you could then add them to a quilt at a later stage.

Claire – I am not a quilter – and don’t have any plans to become one. Far too many other things on the go. So the window hexies will most likely become cushions
