celebrating

Happy Birthday Queen Victoria!
it’s a holiday Monday
Canada and most definitely Victoria, the city named in her honor, celebrates the current ruling monarch’s birthday
on May 24th or the weekend preceding it
the city of Victoria has always had a grand parade – I’ve been going since I was a child
in Canada it is considered the start of Summer
well, Summer is definitely on the way – without a parade this year
a 12th hexie is up in the window
and under the window, hiding in the bergenia root
it must be the Spring rains

I find it curious which events justify a public holiday for which country. I had no idea canada maked Queen Victoria’s birthday. Our usual ‘first weekend of May’ bank holiday was moved to VE day this year but was something of a damp squib given lockdown. I love your hexies. I think the quitting point is when a) you can’t see out of the window because there are so many of them or b) you get bored with making them or c) you want them for another project or d) the window needs cleaning and you can’t be bothered putting them up again. You will know when it is time to stop!

Sue – Canada still has a “one of the colonies” mentality although that is being significantly challenged – possibly due to our increasing multi-culture population. Still nobody is going to turn down yet another holiday. The reason for the window hexies was to mark each week as the response to Covid 19 progressed. The province of B.C. has just loosened some of the restrictions, I will wait a couple weeks to see how that plays out. And yes, the window definitely needs cleaning!

But those hexies are the best excuse ever to avoid the job!

I was intrigued by your very small ones and tried to find a template for them but without success. I shall have to keep looking. I like the idea of using up tiny scraps!

Sue – I just drew the small template myself. Find a scaled down one on the computer and trace it gently off the screen.

Your hexies are looking lovely, like sakura blossom blowing across the window. Happy Victoria Day 🙂

Kate – I look at them as a rainbow, hence the curve. Beginning to wonder what marks the quitting point
