a trip to the store and more stitching
early morning visitor – looking for breakfast?
8:30 am – first time out for 14 days –Β except for a daily walk
wow! – it seemed like a big event
grocery shopping, enough for another 2 weeks
a huge thank you to Thrifty’s and their staff
they regulated the number of shoppers, the shelves were well stocked with only a few things missing
like all bulk foods , meaning no chocolate covered raisins!
and they wouldn’t use personal recycle bags – but they didn’t charge for paper bags
(to encourage shoppers to supply their own bags many stores now charge for large bags)
remember climate change??
the sample book is progressing
lining the back of the covers this time
with the striped shirt material – I wanted to show students that using striped material can be tricky
it doesn’t always line up straight
cut large enough to fold to the front – I trimmed the corners, turned under the raw edges and hand stitched them down
then I cut material for the “pages”
4 times the width of the cover and just a little less than the height
after the stitching is done, on each individual page, they get folded into the center
and the messy backs are hidden
the back cover has a “missage”
I ran out of new reading material and have been enjoying
House at Pooh Corner, When We Were Very Young and The Tao of Pooh
what to include on the pages?
I had to try Kate’s instructions for hexies – March 27 – they (the instructions) were perfect
and I stitched one up in no time – but I can’t imagine doing a whole quilt
then, cleaning kitchen drawers, I found two old Japanese sashiko coasters
unpicked the binding which can be used again and peeled off the backing
getting excited about this book
it is really Spring in Victoria
March is going out like a lion
it is raining, cold and blustery
I love the idea of the backing onto the fabric and folding forwards. Not sure I grasp how you are adding the pages, but really love your fabric sample book. Love the quote.

Cathy – I love making traditional paper books so wanted to try the same techniques with fabric. Will stitch the pages in on the spine. The quote of course is from The House at Pooh Corner.

Your book is going to be lovely – as ever! I love Winnie the Pooh and am looking forward to having great grandchildren so I have the perfect excuse to get those books out again! (I know i could just read them but I really like resading them to little ones!)

Sue – don’t wait! read it out loud to yourself. It will just be that much better when you have little ones to read to. π

Dawn – thank you. The book is at the stage where it is almost making itself, I just have to do the stitching.

Glad they worked OK for you π That hexie flower you made would have been right at home in my Worldwide Friends indigo and red hexie quilt!
Our supermarkets are telling people to bring their own bags, but pack the groceries themselves, which is fair enough, I think. It might even make the line move faster!

Kate – up until now stores have encouraged people to bring their own bags which I have done for years and always pack my own bag but now they don’t want bags that they don’t know how clean they are. Wish countries could get together on this and decide what is the best way – then we might get ahead of this faster. I enjoyed making my hexie and plan to make a couple more but now know it is a major event to make a whole quilt.

We use square insulated fabric bags with a ‘lid’ for all our shopping, and they go through the washing machine regularly. I’ve never minded packing my own groceries, having done it all my life in the UK before I came to Australia, and when I’m using the self-service aisle. I don’t want paper bags because they’re not so strong and have to be recycled. As for the hexies; it’s not for everyone, even the acutely bored!

Kate – of course it never really gets hot enough here to need an insulated bag. I really enjoyed making my hexie and was imagining all sorts of different colour combinations just don’t think I having the staying power.

I hope the kitty isnβt hanging around the bird feeder with its mouth open!
Stormy weather, indeed.

Kjerstin – I have several neighborhood felines who do exactly that but in this case no feeder there.
