a controlled spin

February 23, 2020

Saturday was the guild’s annual Spin-in

an all day gathering of fibre fanatics – an excuse to do nothing but spin and visit

this is a picture from last year

just to give you an idea what 40-50 spinners all in a row looks like

why last year? – because the battery in my new camera died just as I got started

and guess what – I don’t have a cell phone

of course one goes with cash – just because you know you’re going to buy something

and I absolutely fell in love

with this mixed breed lambs wool – Blue Faced Leicester and Cotswold

all these shades from one little lamb

incredibly soft and silky

look at these curls – they are too beautiful to do anything with

but I’ll hand tease and spin the locks on my favorite Turkish spindle

fleece from http://www.penderislandfarm.net

spindle from http://www.thewoodemporium.co.uk

and the blended colours of this tussah silk were calling to me

that’s all – I didn’t break the bank

and just in case you don’t know about this site  http://hand-spinning-news.com/   for more spinny things

and try the on-line jigsaw for a little fun  http://www.jigsawplanet.com/shieladixon/Yvonne

Spring is on the way although today is stormy with high winds and steady rain

Velma – sorry you’re having trouble. I think every blog platform made a competitive decision to make responding difficult – for security reasons?? – and shot themselves, and the users in the foot.

I am a Lily of the Field, I do not spin, but Oh! the wool, and Oh! the silk… I would have to find a way to use them just as they are…

Kate – to hold those natural fibres in my hand and feel them slip through my fingers is my primal link to the earth and it’s creatures and to all textiles. Spinning is a moving meditation.
