wool in the summer

July 20, 2018

the Summer sun has made me lazy

working on the Cormo fleece

I’m finger teasing it, hand carding, spinning singles on a Turkish drop spindle

and plying on a wheel

it is so soft and springy it jumped into crazy twists and turns when it was wound into a skein

a bit of a shock

but after a light wash and drying with a weight it smoothed out and is soft and well behaved

the bark peeled from the walnut tree branches has been sitting in the sun for 2 weeks

it is almost too hot to put a hand into

the small skein after 2 hours in the dye

what will it look like after a week?

the first little tapestry – 4″ x 4″

is off the pipe loom

with a finished selvedge on all four sides

linen warp

handspun wool and silk weft

madder and logwood dyes

I used a cartoonand then marked the pattern on the warp with a quilter’s fading marker

it worked but the warp moves a little and don’t think it is worth the effort

now to warp the loom again

You’re doing a lot but, the way you describe it, it all seems so mellow and unhurried. Lovely.

Kerry – well, I’m struggling to finish the weaving on the floor loom – just can’t seem to get the time and the July tapestry is causing some troubles. Doing more sitting in the sun!
