time in the studio
it’s Studio Tour time again
Sat. and Sun. April 21 & 22 – 12 noon – 4:30 pm
everyone welcome – it’s free
17 artist’s studios and a gallery
maps are available at Oak Bay Rec Center
and I’ll have extra in my studio
the tea towels are weaving up quickly
after the pink weft there is a light beige one and then green
my favorite so far – with a lime green border
me then and me now
the April tapestry is almost finished
technically it has been a challenge
with all the taking out and re-weaving I’ve woven it twice
but – it has been fun renewing my acquaintance with my young self
after finishing 100 grams of the Eri silk
I changed to Tusser silk, it is a silvery taupe colour
they both come from India
it’s quite surprising how different the texture is
the Eri is a long fibre, smooth and silky
the Tusser fibre is crisp and crinkly and feels a little like wool
the singles were spun on a Turkish drop spindle and then plied on my wheel
now I’m off to clean the studio
The tapestry is amazing. Why are you weaving it sideways, though?

Kerry – well, it is a recognized technique so I needed to try it – and – I couldn’t have done the grass/flowers the other way around and the arms/legs would have also been difficult (too skinny) on the warp sett I had to work with.

The little Tapestry is lovely and spring-y!

Kjerstin – thank you, I enjoyed the struggle and learned more tapestry techniques.

I wish I could come to the studio tour! The tea towels look splendid. I asked Gilly what her favorite color is, and she says she will think about it, but it seems to be remaining a secret. I would like to order two. (In case I forgot to say that before). The tapestry is lovely!

Suzanne – yes you get first choice for 2 and Gilly will have lots of colours to pick.
