staying dry
January 11, 2018
it is sooo wet, grey and gloomy
I feel like crawling into bed and pulling the covers over my head
but
at least it isn’t snow
so
the little tapestry for January is finished
first, all the ends have to be stitched in
then cover an art frame with the handwoven fabric
a curved, book binding needle was helpful to stitch it on the canvas
and the star is recognizable!
the weft yarns are all handspun
now I’m experimenting with spinning specifically for tapestry
and the next lot of tea towels are started
impossible to get good colour in this light
a wider border on the other end
and the rain has stopped – at least for a little while

Alice – I’m struggling and still un-weave as much as I weave, thank goodness they are small. Really enjoy the results and am finding it difficult to put them down, great work in the evenings beside the fire. Hope you are staying warm this crazy winter.

The tapestry looks delightful–so tidy and interesting. And I love the towels–colors and that twill. I’m just a fool for twills! You’ve started the year well!

Kerry – thank you. The towels started with a “safe” colour but I’m planning to get a little more adventurous. Twill is always very satisfying.

hey, this weaving, the tapestry and towel, are just fine! i really like that tapestry. here the rain and 53 degree january thaw have erased the snow (that’s not in huge piles), but snow/ice is promised for tonight.

Velma – I’m trying very hard not to whine about the weather considering what the rest of the world is experiencing. Stay dry and warm and safe.
