works in progress

June 17, 2017

recently I came across a big roll of uncut wool woven for a twice woven rug

I knew it was there

but had been ignoring it

for several years – can’t remember how many!

time to do something – use it or lose it

thank goodness for the big, sharp Henckels scissors

I cut it in sections, over several evenings

rolled it into balls secured with elastic bands

and finally reached the point where each length could be cut off separately

15 balls with 5 more to cut

fuzzy caterpillars

there was a design/plan for this but it seems to have gone missing!

will it be the next project or back in the cupboard?

meanwhile my assistant, Judy and I unpacked all the show entries

that was exciting (yes Sharon, I’m excited)

and in some cases, surprising

photographs don’t always show what you get

the peonies are blooming

a little gardening is a good stress reducer

Like Christmas, but without the materialism that goes along with “owning stuff”!

Tracy – unfortunately we were working so fast we couldn’t take the time to really enjoy each piece. But – there were a couple things I wouldn’t mind owning. You are right our culture is fixated on “owning stuff” and most of it is just stuff.

Will the work for this show never end?? But it must be sort of fun to see the submissions. I’ve never seen the fuzzy caterpillars of wool before–what is that called?

I made a twice woven rug long ago and it’s currently padding my loom bench. yup, fuzzy caterpillars, aka weaving chenille. It uses up a lot of yarn! Hope you have time to show the next step for those who aren’t familiar with the process.

What a secret treasure trove in your studio!

Louisa – I will show the next step – but you’ll have to be patient. Can’t wait to get back to weaving and dyeing and weeding the garden!
