the colour orange

May 8, 2017

Conference work is endless

once again my computer skills have been tested

far beyond my comfort zone

there is no possibility of growing old gracefully!

at the front door, the bluebells are blooming

the rhubarb is enormous

it is going to keep me busy giving it away

and there is orange on the loom

towel #5

I just couldn’t weave an entire towel with the paintbox orange

it made my head hurt

so I settled on a cotton/hemp blend

dyed, years ago, with homegrown madder

with a border of the strong colour

towel #6

with a peacock weft

what a difference a weft makes!

Judi – I stew the rhubarb an eat it on my porridge, my favorite is in muffins. Struggling to find time for the garden and weaving. Can’t wait until July 3rd when the conference is over. Bryan will be here teaching at the conference.

Orange works great as accent. The peacock weft is wonderful.

Noooo!! I love orange! They are perfect. Though come to think of it, if I had to weave something in Barbie pink I’d probably have the same reaction. 😉

Louisa – we all have our colour likes and dislikes. I remember weaving 27 yards of mainly orange for skirts for the Ukrainian dance group, they would come at lunchtime and talk me through it!

Your bluebells are gorgeous! I miss these kinds of flowers living in the desert!

I have a ANWG question if that’s OK: I was wondering about how long it would take to see/ peruse the exhibits on Friday? Any thoughts?

Kristin – there are approx. 60 items in the Juried show, 30 in the Open show and not so many in the Instructor’s show. Then there are 29 guild booths which are usually great and the shopping area, both in the gym. The campus is very compact so no great distances to walk. It depends on what you are interested in and whether you take photos etc. Guess that’s not much help!

I quite like the orange! And I, too, would like to see all the towels lined up, when you finish.

Kerry – I’m happy with how very different the towels are, will line them up for a fashion shoot. The softer orange is not so bad.

Ah rhubarb! Jean, you may like to try making rhubarb scones? I used this recipe from Youtube (and they were delicious).
