having a difficult time getting going

weather is cold and I’m not good in the cold

the fabric book is weaving slowly

each month consists of two facing pages – the warp will run horizontally

the first page woven with a different weft and the facing page same as the warpp1110122space dyed fine silk – bright and warm

p1110124handspun singles, factory waste silk, carded with a little mohair – lots of texture

p1110128shifu, paper thread with sumi ink writing – a secret message?

this is fun!

but it is only the start, once the pages are woven

the big challenge is the monthly design??

as most of January will be taken up with weaving – trying to get pages for one month finished each day

I’ve started on the January page

p1110120tiny  Р1 3/4 inchies Рto applique

using up the smallest amount of scraps

all hand stitched

the piece on the lower right is how each square is started

p1110121they take almost as long to stitch as a larger piece

but they are addictive – just wish they used up more of the scraps

and the month is flying by!

I’ll be starting a new beginners weaving class soon and have room for another student

if you know anyone in the area who might be interested

let me know or ask them to get in touch

very interesting video on NHK World on kimono and modern designs

in the menu click on Video, scroll down until you find “Design Talks” and click on “Kimono”

and more kimono if you click on “Core Kyoto”

Love this idea of woven pages. I started a book made from my hand dyed fabric but never finished the stitching. May be I should dig it out and finish it off. Looking forward to seeing how your ideas progress.

Rachel – oh yes, finish your book. see what new ideas you have after leaving it for some time – and it will be something to cross off the list. let me know when it is done.

Velma – strange winter weather this year, just trying to keep moving forward. A day by the fire spinning or stitching is comforting.

That’s quite a project you’ve set out for yourself! It’s going to be fascinating to watch it develop–I’ll be here. And I wish I could be *there* to take the class with you!

Kerry – it is not as big as the prayer flags, think it will be like a sampler of techniques/ideas. You are way beyond needing my beginner’s class.

Love your small pieces, so tiny and the weaving.

Debbie – I like the little things too. Unfortunately they don’t use enough of the scrap stash.
