winter on the wet coast
December 9, 2016
snow again last night and then rain
typical wet coast weather
it is always a guessing game as to what comes next
did you think I was going to do something Christmas-y?
the yin/yang symbol signifying
balance-unity-oneness
the top one in stitched shibori
below – handspun, handwoven fabric
weft in the white is shifu, the paper was written on with sumi ink
the indigo dyed piece was handspun from a blend of silk/flax 35 years ago
left in natural colours
sewn into a jacket which I wore for several years
remade into a top and remade again into a vest
then dyed with indigo
think it has found its final resting place

I loved reading about the prayer flags, seeing the symbolism and being inspired by all the different techniques used! The shibori yin/yang is very cool.

Just love that stitched Shibori piece. Stunning. You have had a busy year. Any chance you will slow down over the Chrustmas season. I guess not, too many things to spin, weave, stitch, dye… Enjoy reading all about your creative endeavours. PS loved the hanten workshop- we all had a ball. We did get to make our denim one by machine though – can’t believe you made that one by hand too

Hi Judi – thank you, happy you enjoyed the workshop, I’m still wearing the denim hanten almost every day, it is even o.k. in light rain. Yes, we did sew them by hand and I learned (from sensei) how to use a Japanese cloth thimble properly. At home, I put the denim one in the bath and showered on it, working shampoo and cream rinse into it for approx. 10 days. It’s not so stiff, just heavy.
