the weather is grey, very wet and altogether gloomy
not a good time to dye
all the silk lining fabric wouldn’t fit on the pole
so I cut off enough for the sleeve linings, folded and clamped itnot very happy but inside the sleeves it will never be seen
the arashi shibori is o.k. but nothing exciting
and it was too long for the dye pot so I had to continually pour dye over the last bit
logwood and lac for the dyes
lesson learned!
now i have no excuse not to get on with sewing the hanten
starting with the sleeves – the easiest part
now I’m off to continue threading the loom
I really like the sleeve lining! Your hanten is going to be so unique.
When we hosted Convergence in 2002 I made sure my job (Publications) was one that let me free to enjoy the conference. I hope you’ll get to attend some of the events anyway!

Louisa – I wasn’t as smart as you! and am regretting it. I’m going to enjoy seeing people – like yourself and Velma who is a blogging friend and Bryan coming from Japan.

The conference looks wonderful–that’s a star-studded cast of presenters. And I really want to see a photo of all of you wearing your sashes!

Kerry – there are some really interesting workshops, unfortunately I’ll be “hanging the shows” and not free to take anything. Have to see about the picture.

Those lining pieces look lovely. Great colour. Have fun making the hanten. I’m about to attempt a half size one now I am home to reinforce the method.
