on and off the loom

November 1, 2016

Betsy is modeling the conference sash

p1100812as there was extra warp, I finished the weft on the bobbins in random stripes and colours

these are not colours I would choose to use together

but I really like their happy, bright stripes

p1100809to make a button/pin to hold the sash at the shoulder

p1100821a plastic ring padded with quilt batting and a pin stitched on the back seems to work

p1100819the sash is quite wide for narrow shoulders

and now it is on to tea towels for the Studio tourp1100815and the pressure to be ready is off

good start to a new month

Lovely, Jean. Are you gonna make buttons for all of them???

Sharon – I have enough fabric to make one for everybody but I’ll bring 3 or 4 to the meeting and see what people think, some may not want one. They don’t take too long in the evening!

The sash is just lovely. Now, I need to understand its use–who wears the sash? Are there multiple sashes? How many did you weave? Will you keep one?

Kerry – everyone one the steering committee gets a sash (15 I think) I wove 2 and keep one. They are suppose to identify the wearer as someone who can answer visitor’s questions! Mine will probably hang out in my backpack while I struggle to “hang the shows”.

That’s a GREAT motivation to be on the steering committee!

Kerry – no motivation here. Three years of meetings, pages of paperwork etc. and hanging the show while the workshops are happening so I can’t take one is enough to make a person run in the other direction!

Kjerstin – I like the button fabric. Couldn’t find metal button forms big enough so had to resort to the plastic ring, takes more time to make.

The committee certainly chose a large colour palette for this conference, didn’t they? Your sashes look lovely though. If it were me, I’d be one who needed a button!

Louisa – I’ve never been a fan of the colour/design choice but when weaving the button fabric it took on a new look.

Lovely sash and the added bonus of pressure off!
