Mini is celebrating – HAPPY CANADA DAY

July 1st – 149 years old (the country, not Mini)

my indigo vat loves the warm weather

P1100069finally finished the prayer flag for June

not what was initially planned but happy to recycle an earlier weaving

P1100060“Magic” – drying in the shade with the indigo

P11000677 ounces (198.45 gms.) of handspun cotton

now what to weave with it?

P1100074two beginning weavers – mother and daughter

threading the heddles

P1100072sleying the reed

have to love the weaving vocabulary!

can you believe it?

my spellcheck didn’t recognize the word “Canada” !

not to mention the second elections in spain which did not clarify the panorama at all. maybe a third one in sight? i haven’t done any dyeing yet, dont know if i will this summer so there’s a fair amount of,as they say here, “healthy” envy looking at your vat.

Neki – don’t think it would feel like summer if there wasn’t an indigo vat going although I really don’t have much to dye – everything is already blue!

again, feeling like “almost canadian” isn’t enough. this year in australia i felt compelled to try to explain the weirdness of american politics. sigh. loving that cotton and admiring all your work.

Velma – world politics is getting more incredible by the month, I was just so relieved to get rid of our last Prime Minister – he seems to have faded into the oil sands of Alberta. Totally appalled at the mess in Britain, Australians aren’t innocent of political shenanigans themselves. Think all we can do is to keep on doing what we do and may the powers that be protect us all.

I think that, given what’s going on in the UK and in the US these days, Canadians must be appreciating their homeland more than ever! I love weaving vocabulary–so odd and fun to say out loud!

Kerry – I think what was celebrated, across the country, was the welcoming of new immigrants/refugees in their first Canada Day – and yes most of us are proud to include them.
