this, that and other things
prayer flag for April/May – finished!
the background was woven for a different project
that simply didn’t work
the blue was leftover from a garment facing
the circles are tiny hand-woven scraps
the yellow circles are stitched with handspun silk thrums
the kantha (running stitches) are again silk thrums
all re-used and re-cycled
an expression of joy titled Hanabi (fireworks)
in trying to remember the traditional process for stitching a hanten
we discussed a possible book and decided
making Kimono & Japanese clothes by Jenni Dobson
might be helpful
I ordered the least expensive copy on-line
and then was notified that it wasn’t available
searching on-line again I found a used copy locally
it was $15.50 Can. and no post as opposed to $44.95 U.S with a heavy post fee
it is a pretty book and gives extra instructions for
decorative techniques such as applique, patchwork, sashiko and shibori
but not traditional Japanese sewing techniques
the better book is still John Marshall’s
Make Your Own Japanese Clothes
this past weekend was my favorite annual pottery show
blue spoons from Kinichi Shigeno
cup by Meira Mathison
a reminder of the potter, Ryutaro Yamada, we visited in Japan
we walked down a long, steep, winding road
shelves piled with wonderful pots
serious decisions had to be made
we had to decide what would fit in a suitcase?
ohh gorgeous! that place would be my damnation as i am a sucker for handmade pottery.

Neki – me too, but you have to think twice when it has to go in a suitcase.

I didn’t make it to Fired Up this year, but Al took his mother, and bought her a Gordon Hutchens mug, and me a Cathi Jefferson cup!

Kjerstin – they had an excellent turn out this year and some very interesting guest potters.

Thanks for the ‘shinshi.’ Now I know what those bamboo rods are called! So many wonderful things to enjoy in this world. I love Marshall’s book and his website is really good, too.
