frustration

posted a long update yesterday and it went astray!!
maybe a fresh start this morning will be more successful
the kairu (frogs) are noisy at night, celebrating Spring
the indigo vats have been busy
shibori samples stencilled, capped and tied and dyed in indigo
we are now working on a second hanten
sensei arrives at 10am and for two days I’ve worked until midnight
the results so far are less than spectacular
today we move on to the sleeves and collar
finished tonight – hopefully
well, it is after midnight and the hanten isn’t finished
guess it is an early start tomorrow – and we are visiting a local potter, yeah!
I need to get some sleep

Sounds like a very intense schedule. At least the weather has been nice for most of Golden Week. If you have any spare time at all, walk in the woods. This is the most beautiful time of year in a Japanese forest or near newly planted rice paddies. The wild wisteria are in bloom.

Jean-Pierre – heavy rain this afternoon/evening otherwise the weather has been good. Half way up a mountain in deep forest, wisteria is beautiful. Off to Tokyo and then Osaka on Monday, and hopefully some time in Kyoto. The work is intense, learning lots. 😊

I don’t know long you will be in Kyoto but if you have a full day, you might be able to get a free tour of one of the imperial palaces by going to the Imperial Office Household Agency building in Gosho (the large imperial park in the north-central part of the city) and presenting your passport. The Sento Palace within Gosho is a favourite. Magnificent gardens. Japanese have to apply 6 months ahead to see one of the palaces. Foreigners can go on the same day as long as there is space in one of the guided tours. Enjoy the rest of your stay!

Jean-Pierre – thanks for the info. I will be visiting a friend in Osaka, she lived in Victoria (and wove in my studio) we will drive to Kyoto so don’t know what she has planned. I visited the Sento
Palace when I was a student at Kawashima, wonderful.

Lots of hard work but worth it in the end. Your workshop is almost over and you will be glad to go home and get some sleep but I bet you wouldn’t have missed it for the world. Such an adventure. I wonder whether a boro hanten is in your future?
