waiting for Spring
February 3, 2015
yesterday was candlemas – a reminder that the light will indeed return
a nice reminder because the weekend was very grey and soggy
it was a good time to weave samples
award ribbons – looking very Spring-ish
these may not be the final choice
you will have to come to the conference to see and perhaps win one
today- February 3- is Setsubun
(of course that was yesterday in Japan)
in the old calendar it was lunar new year
followed by the beginning of Spring
it is celebrated with ritual bean scattering or mamemaki
out with the old and in with the new
the birds are pecking at the edamame I threw out
they are looking a bit puzzled!
sorry for those of you who are still shoveling snow
but Spring is on the way in Victoria

It’s staying light later in the evening! I just noticed that and got very excited. The ribbons are really lovely–those colors!

We are at the dead end of summer here. Dry and hot. Longing for cool weather.

Myra – we have just had a rain warning issued for the rest of the week and Eastern North America has been buried in snow with temps down to -30 degrees when the wind chill factor is taken into account. Planet Earth is suffering.

Not exactly “shovelling” snow but eager for Spring. Love the award ribbon colours.

Lis – I always tend to rush it, we can still get snow in Feb. I hope the response is good for the ribbons, they still have to be given the thumbs up by the committee.
