tea towels, paper thread and paper flowers

May 5, 2014

the loom is naked – but not for long

P1040830tea towels are washed and hemmed

P1040832the weave structure has two very different sides

weft in the brown piece is my hand spun shifu (paper) thread and a two ply paper and ramie yarn from Japan which I dyed with kakishibu

I plan to use it for the covers on the journal I started – back here

the smaller piece is woven with indigo dyed linen and shifu thread

P1040813large paper flowers with pom-pom centers

Oh, i like these tea towels. Very nice pattern and colors, everything is perfectly “just enough” ,and the handspun yarn makes them extra special.

Alfia – thank you, there isn’t any handspun in the tea towels – just the paper thread in the two smaller pieces.

Kristin – it is an old upholstery pattern and has a few problems. needs a bit more work.
Heather – mostly linen, the blue one is linen and hemp, they feel really good.
Velma – and thank you. I use only handwoven towels – mine and other weavers’ and they give me pleasure every time I pick one up.

I LOVE the blue and white one of yours that i have but the other is also fabulous. Both are in my new kitchen and make it feel like a real home, my own. And funny: I read too fast, and thought you said the tea towels were hammered, not hemmed! I wondered what kind of technique that would be in weaving (I assumed ironing)!

The towels look great. I really love the blue and white–such a classic, traditional combination.
