the nature of things
the kesa is progressing
the center three panels are stitched together
but – there is a hole in the kakishibu dyed linen
it is new fabric – not an old, worn recycled piece !*^^*!
so, this kesa is showing its true nature
a patch, before it is even finished
and then, after careful examination
another weak spot
this time a different patch
this is getting serious and I can’t dye more kakishibu until the sun shines brightly
I like how the stitches look on the back
the lining fabric has taken a week to get on the loom
difficulties there as well
fine yarns of various fibres, the handspun singles hemp is hairy and wanted to cling to other yarns
a very asymmetrical stripe pattern
but wait – do you see the pin, lower left?
a broken warp thread – already, that hemp singles!
at either end I’ve decided to weave a stripe border
it will finish up some of the warp yarns– more stash gone!
This kesa is really turning out beautiful. I’ve had a inkling to sew one for a few years now, and I’m feeling the urge again. I’ve made a few rakusu, but a big kesa is quite a commitment. I think I’m ready.

Kirstin – it is big! think one has to be prepared to make changes as it evolves and expect surprises along the way.

it’s been that sort of week, even at the turn of the moon (or whatever it’s called). fraught here, too, but not with fiber folly. geesh!

Velma – jeesh indeed. there were days when I thought I should just stay in bed and pull the quilt over my head. hope you are warm and healthy.

Everything about your kesa is beautiful – the stitching, the weaving, the intention.
