what’s next
November 13, 2013
the scarves are finished
handspun silk weft and natural dyes, a nice weight and drape
my initial plan was to use up small amounts of handspun yarns
wool is next
there is vast amounts of it, this is about a quarter of the wool
a bonus was being forced to sort out a cupboard – and get rid of just a little bit
cushions –the natural grey (in front) will be the warp
I dyed a medium grey wool in the logwood
a quick dip for the light skein and overnight for the dark one
sometimes this seems never ending!

Thank you .. it helps with my plying issues 🙂

Renne’ – although I love my spindles I always ply on the wheel. I use my handspun for weaving, often in the warp and need it to be strong and smooth.

The scarves are gorgeous. The stash is impressive. But making your way through it has to feel good. And in the bottom picture is the yarn plied or are they singles?

Renee – thank you. yes, it is very satisfying to use the stash, especially when it is handspun and natural dyes.all the yarns are 2 ply, I find it doesn’t pill as much and just like to ply.

Oh, these scarves turned out so lovely. Natural dyes are so special, so REAL. Using up little bundles can be so fun. Looks like you could use some help 😉

Kristin – thanks, natural dyes have completely changed how I see textiles, chemical dyes always look too bright and false. when I use them I inevitably add a little black to sadden them

thank you, Velma. like anything created by hand, I think if one is passionate about the process (including inspiration and design) it shows in the work.

thanks Kerry – they’re not really my colours, I couldn’t decide if I liked them when I was weaving but now they’re finished I’m very happy.

Craftwork of this nature is often self- perpetuating. Scarves look delightful.

Judi – my mission is to use “the stash” but it keeps growing!
Deb – thanks. Logwood is becoming more difficult to get.

The scarf color combinations are lovely. I like the logwood dyeing, I think it is a nice dye to work with.
