summer fun
Mia has come to visit while her family is on holiday
she spends most of the day sleeping under something
and the night walking on me or licking my face
the knitting has been put away
all those balls of wool are so-o much fun!
she is not interested in stitching
the eco dyed table cloth, seen here
is a good background for an indigo moon which includes shibori bojagi pieces
it will be long after the leaves have fallen before this is finished
on the loom, more woven shibori
three different projects on one warp, with three different patterns in each
using three different dyes
I’m colour coding the shibori threads so hopefully I won’t get confused
just out of the indigo vat
a test piece, maybe a table cloth?
loosely woven, unbleached commercial cotton
it was well scoured before dyeing
the bees are getting drunk on the oregano
it is dangerous to get to close
Alfia – I find woven shibori endlessly fascinating, but the weaving is only 1/2 of the piece – dyeing is equally important.

looking at your pictures i want to try woven shibori! it makes perfect sense and looks so easy, but I feel I will have to read some book on the technique.

Alfia – there is only one book, Woven Shibori by Catharine Ellis, published by Interweave Press. I was lucky to take a workshop with her several years ago.

jean, i’ve written and re-written a comment, but the truth is i’m speechless. there is such beauty in this post, and then there’s indigo, too. really lovely.

Velma – thank you, I’d hate for you to be speechless. the indigo vat is still a little sulky and it really smells strong but the colour is good

the ai dyed cotton would make a great bedcover.
wish my oregano were as healthy as yours.

Neki – that piece is what is left after I cut off two panels for curtains. it is difficult to fold and clamp such big pieces. I had thought about a bed cover but time will tell. the oregano has self seeded everywhere and is spectacular this year.

I’m inspired by your woven shivering – very beautiful! And I have a kitty staying with me for a little while this summers also.

Lorrie – I think you mean woven shibori, the coloured threads get gathered tightly and they are removed after it is all dyed. have fun with your kitty.
