circles
June 21, 2013
reading the book, ENSO Zen Circles of Enlightenment I am reminded of how often the circle appears in art
in Zen belief the circle represents the totality of our being
Robert Frost wrote
“We dance round in a ring and suppose,
But the Secret sits in the middle and knows.”
I’m back to stitching buttons, inspired by Shibori Girl here
shown in Aimee Lee’s hanji basket
working on a piece for the bojagi
the resist patterns drawn with rice paste and dyed in woad
spindle whorls – another circle
spinning tussah silk
a tiny present left at the back door

Velma – it is believed, when drawing enso (with brush and ink, of course) that the state of the artist can be clearly read in the manner of their circle.
