a Japanese weaver’s studio

August 2, 2012

I finally finished getting my pictures from the Japanese Textile Workshop in order and have made copies to send to  the “indigo sisters” and  Bryan

after finishing that I moved on to pictures taken while visiting my friend, Taeko-san, in Nagano province

this is Nagai-san in her studio. She is a traditional kimono weaver and uses left-over, dyed silk yarns to weave fabrics and design Western style clothing.

she weaves on a traditional, 4 harness loom. The studio has a cozy corner for tea, and her Buddhist alter

she has patched the holes in the shoji artistically. Her silk noren is unusual.

she and Taeko-san decided to have an impromptu fashion show

and I had fun as well

Judi – she has a wonderful small studio, it’s welcoming, inspiring and a happy place. I enjoy seeing other peoples workplaces.
Myra – the bag is actually red, handwoven and ancient. I used to weave them to sell but they are too much work for the price I can get.

Love it all, Jean, thanks. I specially like your pretty pink bag in which you have the discs.
