summer weaving and the blues
summer weather makes it difficult to stay inside and weave
tea towels are progressing slowly
the second and third towels, changing the weft yarn gives each towel a very different appearance
in front is a very textured cotton which obscured the pattern and behind it is a weft of Bockens 16/2 linen in a soft grey/green – the shine on it is lovely.
for the fourth towel, the heavy weft is handspun, 2 ply hemp dyed lightly with kakishibu. The fine weft is a 20/2 cotton dyed yellow with – something from the garden??
the indigo vat has perked up – result of warm, dry weather?
a bleached linen summer top went into the vat, obviously a synthetic thread for the hem stitching around the neckline
an old linen towel dyed yellow from that same mysterious plant – top dyed with indigo
a well worn white T-shirt went into the vat as well!
along with a scrap woven with handspun, natural colour hemp with an indigo stripe and a madder stripe in the weft
Love those blues!!
