an old pattern and old yarns
July 3, 2012
recreating the pattern for my student’s old tea towel took a little longer than I expected
turns out the pattern is in Handwoven’s Design Collection 2- but it has a mistake, I think in the tie-up. Then I found it in the book 8, 12,…20 An Introduction to Multishaft Weaving by Kathryn Wertenberger, it’s her pattern
using 2 weights of yarns in neutral colours from my stash -so far, 7 different linen, hemp and cotton yarns
sleying the heavy yarns singly and the fine double in a 15 dent reed is taking a little time
if I can reduce “the” stash I can justify buying more yarns.
Doesn’t seem likely in this lifetime!

Primarily a knitter, my yarn stash issues are similar, though I am trying to use said stash. Wow, what lovely yarns you have in yours though.
Oh and I finally started my own weaving project. Very very very basic on cardboard but it’s a start! And I love it as much as I thought I would.

I love these stash-busting projects, especially ones that combine different grists. You have a really nice mixture there. Impossible to buy that from scratch!

Alice – I couldn’t weave without the stash, many of my warps are mixes and blends, so much more interesting.
Neki – the only loom I weave on – an AVL 40″, 16 harness manual dobby. It has it’s problems but don’t they all?

The yarns are such exquisite colours Jean. I wore the wee flower you gave me today! It was much admired.

i don’t think it’s likely for hoarders to ever decrease their stash; using yarns only creates an empty spot to excuse the purchase of new yarns! but, it is nice to use some special yarns ones been saving, for a particular project.

I’ve been using nothing but my stash for the past 1 1/2 yr. haven’t bought any new yarn! fibre for spinning and books, yes – nothing will cure me of the book habit but using the yarns is a challenge I enjoy.

you are a strong woman jean, and i salute you! i’m always coming across yarn that goes so well with something i already have in my stash. but, i think perhaps my stash is not so big.
ah, books, a definite weak spot for me also!
