machine knitted indigo and shibori
while at the workshop we indigo dyed many skeins of fine cotton yarn, dip dyeing some and varying the shades. Bryan took them to his friend, Kurihara-san and he knit them on his knitting machine
a picture of the machine, our fabric being knitted, bottom center.
we all received a metre of the finished piece – and there is more in the mail!
Blandina and Nat inspecting the finished work
well done!
also, starting with an undyed knitted piece and stitching it horizontally
Lis doing some stitching
Bryan and Janine put the stitched piece on a pole
pulling it up tightly
dyed and off the pole
was all that work worth it??
we shared a few inches of this knitted shibori piece.
What an exciting process.
i was on the edge of my seat just watching this!

Neki — and Bryan and friends have 2 old machines and a house they will renovate to set up a workshop to start dyeing and knitting. Can’t wait to see what is created there.
