wabi sabi beauty

March 7, 2012

wabi – sabi

the Japanese idea that beauty is found in that which is impermanent, imperfect and incomplete

the books written in an attempt to explain this belief are legendary

it is a difficult idea to explain in words, it is easier to say what it isn’t than what it is

both words and images here are a treat for the senses

as an introduction to his new book “The Pulse of Mixed Media” Seth Apter is introducing 31 of the artists featured in the book in 31 days of his blog “the altered page”  well worth a visit.

enjoy

I put Seth’s book on my wish list. My birthday is not so far away and I hope that one of my children will be short of ideas…

Thank you so much for spreading the word about 31 Artists/31 Days. And you probably already know how much I am inspired by Donna and her art and blog.

i think i learned wabi-sabi when i realized how attracted i was to the unbeautiful (or what i’d been taught was not beautiful) when i was very young. thank you jean, for this realization!
