yardage
February 26, 2012
this length of hand-woven yardage has been sitting on a shelf for several years – yes, years
the warp is mostly handspun silk with a some fine commercial Merino yarns
the weft is handspun silk singles
I prefer asymmetrical patterns – a bit crazy for a weaver – and the first problem was to plan where to place the stripes/colour.
the Vogue pattern has several small pieces cut off the straight grain which are optional but add length and interest.
and I added a front band, must be the kimono influence, which adds weight and helps the front opening hang nicely.
the lining is black silk satin, it feels wonderful
it doesn’t need them but what about buttons?

Yes! the fabric made such a beautiful vest. I especially like the fade on the backside, although that may not sound PC.

Wow, really lovely, and it will look great on you. I like the pearl buttons, but I always go for mother of pearl. The blue ones are less dressy and would be great too.

Neki – most of my life is very informal, because of the faded denim colour it looks great with jeans so I’m leaning towards your buttons. still dithering.

i’d vote for the pearly ones for a more formal look or the blue ones for a sporty look.
catching up w. your blog, you’ve been really busy! let’s see if i start cranking.

i like the idea of a button; the button and cord would look fantastic, or you could use haori ties in a fun weave/color. i have yardages of fabric which just takes the right pattern to finally use; you just hope you find something before you get tired of the fabric. you’ll get a lot of use out of this vest with the spring weather coming!
