the day started with 2 pots of alum mordant and a big pot of mixed lichens

oh look, onion skins on wool give a buttery yellow

different shades from lac on wool, cotton and silk

lichen on wool and cotton. Mohair solar dyed with mullein, the mullein is over 8 feet tall.

the day was voted a success.

How fascinating, I am intrigued by dyeing and natural dyeing in particular. I would love to spend a day or two in a workshop.

Thank you again Jean for my retire and dye day. I really had fun and learned so much. I hope to dye many more times for many more years.

Beautiful results! how long did you solar dye with mullein for?

the term “solar dye” is misleading – because we haven’t had any sun let alone any heat but it has been in the jar about 2 weeks, I’ll leave it for the summer.
