dressing the loom

July 15, 2011

I’ ve just helped my friend Stephanie warp her new (to her) 8 harness floor loom. She doesn’t have much free time but loves to weave and I know she is going to love 8 harnesses.

she is putting on 2 ply silk hand painted with Procion MX dyes.

there is no natural light and it is difficult to show the colours but it is going to be beautiful.

I came home to my own warp. In January Heather at True Stitches  wrote a blog on aprons. Her picture of this Japanese apron called out to me. This is how I start a weaving project, not the neatest of notes – but at least I do keep notes.

winding a warp of 2/16 cotton in natural, kakishibu brown and 2 shades of indigo.

the stripes will run horizontally on the top of the bib.

I have an old horizontal warping mill, warping goes too quickly when you can work outside enjoying the sun and bird songs.

Oh, that looks like a lovely warp. How exciting to have been part of the inspiration – I look forward to seeing how it turns out!

I was promised a loom too, but haven’t got it yet. Would have love you to come and warp for me when I got it 🙂
In my next Japanese Textile Study Tour I hope to get some lesson on weaving and warping! Sorry if I don’t know what I’m talking about regarding weaving here YET – Nat xoxo
