linen

May 6, 2011

linen is my favorite fibre – I know I’ve said that before – and these pieces were just waiting for me at the consignment shop.

the 42″ square cloth is pristine, the cut work embroidery on all four corners appears to be hand done, the center of the flowers is dyed not applique.

the 6 heavy linen napkins have never been used.

the woven pattern on this hand towel is very unusual, it is not damask and has approx. 1/4 inch floats on a plain weave ground.

while waiting for my cast to come off I’ve been reading Dominique Cardon’s Natural Dyes. Every page, or 710 of them, starting at the beginning. I’m not dyeing since my indigo spill but the napkins will be first as they will be my first bojagi.

Waiting impatiently.
