stripes and patterns

March 25, 2011

— this was deposited on my doorstep. A bird, squirrel or the wind? It seems to be from a wasp’s nest with the texture of handmade paper.

more stripes, beautiful colours

a masterpiece from nature’s artists

the  napkin was first dyed in fermented lichen, then wrapped around a lichen covered branch for 10 days and finally wrapped around the split stems of mahonia, steamed and left for another 10 days. The colours are subtle, most likely they would have been stronger on silk or wool but I love linen and the damask pattern adds another layer of interest.
