scrap patches
sometimes it is a relief to work on something small that can be finished in just a few hours. So much of what I do takes hours, weeks and occasionally months to finish. Weaving, spinning, dyeing and stitching and often all of that in one piece. I’m feeling overwhelmed with all the unfinished projects on the go.
I enjoy doing these small pieces and they always seem to find a home. Perhaps I’ll turn one or two of the larger ones into small finished wall pieces, the idea is evolving. The stitching is very meditative.
Handstitching the pieces creates a very different texture on the surface compared to machine stitching. Using all the small bits of handwoven fabrics is satisfying and each piece is unique.
They are stitched onto a cotton backing and all the materials are recycled, the handwovens, backing and the threads are thrums from the loom.
Wonderful idea!
