cedar

March 1, 2011

—today I went to my favorite fibre store “Knotty by Nature” to pick up some yarn and also picked up a copy of  “Piecework” with this article on sashiko.

Look at those socks!

And I couldn’t resist this cedar basket by local basket maker salty.

Shown with 2 drop spindles by houndesign.

The basket goes nicely with my grandmother’s cedar bowl and spoon, carved in the Tsimshian tradition. And a cedar Dzunuk’wa  mask, know as Wild Woman, carved for me by a friend.

her name is Hilary Stewart, her books are highly respected. I have “Looking at Indian Art, of the Northwest Coast”. Yes, I’m rather pleased with the basket.
