weaving handspun
January 12, 2011
Most of the time I weave patterns that require 2 or more shuttles. I’d forgotten how quickly the weaving goes when using only 1 shuttle–finished in no time!
It’s difficult to photograph natural colours in the winter light. I tried these in the house, in the studio and in the cedar hedge. Fortunately last night’s gale force winds have moderated somewhat.
The 2 scarves have different coloured wefts but they don’t look much different.
On the left is the silk dyed with lichen-lobaria pulmonaria. The right was dyed with a mixed exhaust bath of madder, logwood and cochineal.
The blue ball is the tangled mess, indigo top dyed with lichen.

i’m imagining how these cloths feel against your skin, how the color lifts your spirit, the texture comforts.
