dreaming of the sun

January 5, 2011

–not surprising, but it is raining here on the “wet coast”.  Still playing with needle weaving on the red osier dogwood.

My first attempts at weaving using the branches as a frame reminded me of native American “dream catchers”–without the spider web in the center. I decided to try a few more.

The beaded piece and the earings are made by local people.

Hoping for some clearing in the weather to go to the beach and gather some—stuff. In the meantime, back to the loom.

–bushtits don’t mind the rain.

seeing your photo of red osier was cool, and then i enlarged it. i was transported to the hours i spent gathering it when i was making lots of free form baskets with it. i was startled to find that once spring really kicked in, the red was mostly disappeared. it’s a harvest in winter material around here.
