winding a warp

December 29, 2010

–instead of using a warping board I wind my warps on an old horizontal warping mill. Years ago, when I had a commission for 27 yards of fabric I found this in a garage sale. It’s homemade and pretty basic but does a great job. It collapses for storage and I’ve taken it apart on occasion and used it for display racks.

The warp yarns are hand-spun silk, dyed with madder, cochineal, pomegranate and something  that either lost it’s tag or–?

Off to “dress” my naked loom.
