–twas the night before Christmas

December 27, 2010

—-when the postman came knocking.  The parcel contained a powerful presence, in the form of a wee vessel. Moulded milkweed from Velma’s meadow, created with patience and a love of the process.

It’s beauty is in its simplicity, it’s size and how much it is a part of the earth.

I created a little stand or collar for it to sit on and then enjoyed the making so much I made several more.

The materials are red osier dogwood twigs, they are very flexible and bend easily. The needle weaving is done with handspun hemp dyed with walnut.

The woven square is dyed with kakishibu with an iron modifier applied after the dyeing process.

Exquisite, a container filled with spirit.
