handspun and natural dyes
November 28, 2010
This sweater/jacket was woven some time ago and I hoped to have it finished for the studio tour. But–the knitted I-cord is only half done. I handspun an entire Icelandic fleece–from Jane in East Sooke–plyed it and dyed it with cochineal, madder and indigo. In the warp I added one stripe of cochineal dyed silk. It’s made up like a Japanese field jacket and I’ve knitted cuffs so the sleeves are full length.
At the end of the warp I experimented with some woven shibori and top dyed it in indigo. The indigo dyed the wool a dark blue and the wool held the texture of the gathering threads. This is the tenth heart pincushion.
